Frequently asked questions

What is Lovima and its uses?

Lovima, an oral contraceptive pill, is perfect for women of childbearing age. It is manufactured by Leon Pharma and contains a synthetic form of progesterone i.e. desogestrel, protecting from unintended pregnancies. It also prevents pregnancy even if taken 12 hours late.

Lovima does not contain estrogen, while combined pill (COC) contains 2 types of female sex hormones, i.e., estrogen and progesterone. So, if you are intolerant to estrogen, Lovima is the best option.

Is Lovima pills safe to take?

Lovima, once only available with a prescription, is now an over-the-counter contraceptive pill that women can buy safely and effectively.

It’s the first contraceptive pill that women can purchase online without needing a prescription from a doctor.

However, you must consult your doctor before taking Lovima to evaluate whether you have any history of medical conditions and whether Lovima is safe for you to avoid any adverse effects.

What Lovima does to prevent pregnancy?

Lovima contains desogestrel and mimics the female’s natural sex hormone, i.e., progesterone. It works in such a way that:

  • Thicken the cervical mucus and prevent the sperm from reaching the uterus area.
  • Prevent ovulation and stop the egg from being released.
  • Besides its advantages, Lovima may cause vaginal bleeding at irregular intervals.
Will Lovima stop my period?

Lovima pill, also called progestogen-only pill or the “mini-pill”. may interfere with your menstrual cycle, causing spotting, irregular, light, heavy, or no bleeding at all. It is its common effect and you do not have to worry about it.

How do I switch to Lovima from another contraceptive?

If you want to switch to Lovima from another contraceptive, follow these steps:

Not Used any Hormonal Contraception Previously

If you have not used any hormonal contraception in the last month, wait for your period and take the first Lovima tablet on the first day of your cycle.

In this case, you do not need any extra contraception like condoms. However, if you take Lovima after the first day of your cycle, you will need extra contraception like condoms for the next 7 days.

Switching from Combined Pill (COC)

If you are switching from COC, take Lovima on the next day after your last active tablet. If you take a break between your last COC pill and the start of Lovima, you will need extra contraception like condoms for the next 7 days.

Switching from Vaginal Ring and Transdermal Patch

When switching from a vaginal ring or transdermal patch, take the first Lovima tablet on the day you remove the vaginal ring or transdermal patch.

In this case, you do not need extra contraception. However, if you take a break between removal of a vaginal ring or transdermal patch and starting of Lovima, you will need additional barriers like condoms for the next 7 days.

Changing from other Progestogen-only Pill

You can switch from other progestogen-only pills to Lovima on any day without the need of extra contraception.

Switching from Injection or Implant or Hormonal IUS

Take your first Lovima tablet on the day when your injection is due or on the day you have removed your IUS or implant. In this case, you do not need any additional contraception.

After the Birth of Baby

If you have recently given birth, you can take Lovima before the start of your period. If you take Lovima after 21 days of giving birth, you will need additional barriers like condoms for the next 7 days.

After Abortion or Miscarriage

After an abortion or miscarriage, take Lovima within 5 days. In this case, you will not need extra contraception like condoms.

What should I do if I have forgotten or missed a dose?

If you forget to take a Lovima pill and it is more than 12 hours, take your missed pill as soon as you remember. After this, take your next pill at the usual time.

It means you may need to take two pills a day. Moreover, you have to use extra contraception, such as condoms, for the next 7 days.

Besides that, if you forget to take your Lovima pill and it is less than 12 hours, take your pill as soon as you remember.

After this, take the next pill at the usual time. Lovima will still prevent pregnancy.

How does vomiting or diarrhea affect Lovima’s effectiveness?

If you vomit within 3 to 4 hours of taking Lovima, the pill will be considered missed, and you have to take the pill once your condition gets better.

However, if you have persistent or severe diarrhea or vomiting, it means Lovima is unable to be completely absorbed, and the contraceptive effect will be reduced.

In this case, you have to use extra contraception, such as condoms, for the next 7 days.

What to do If you take too much Lovima pill?

If you take too much Lovima, you may get mild symptoms like vomiting, nausea, or slight vaginal bleeding. No serious effects have been reported due to an overdose of Lovima.

What happens if you stop taking Lovima?

If you stop taking Lovima, your protection against pregnancy ends immediately. To avoid unintended pregnancy, start using another contraceptive method, like condoms, right away.

Your periods may take some time to return to normal; they often resume within four weeks, but this can vary for each person.

Can the Lovima Pill affect my body shape?

Lovima pills do not directly affect your body shape. It may cause mild effects like slight weight gain or water retention due to hormonal changes. This effect is temporary and settles on its own.

What does the pill do for my skin?

Lovima offers varied effects on your skin. Some experience minor skin changes like occasional breakouts or dryness, while others see improvement in acne. The effect varies and depends on your hormonal response and skin type.

Does Lovima cause acne?

Lovima can cause acne due to hormonal fluctuations. However, not everyone gets acne; the effect varies and depends on your skin type and other factors.

Is Lovima similar to cerazette?

Lovima is similar to Cerazette. Both contain desogestrel and are called progestogen-only pills or mini-pills. They work similarly, thickening cervical mucus, stopping ovulation, and preventing pregnancies.
