Daktarin Oral Gel is used to treat superficial fungal infections in the mouth and throat (such as oral thrush caused by Candida) in adults and in children aged 4 months and older.
It can be used by:
- Adults
- Children aged 2 years and above.
- Infants 4 to 24 months, only if their swallowing reflex is properly developed
Not for:
- Babies under 4 months
- Babies or children with poorly developed swallowing
- Anyone allergic to miconazole or the ingredients
- People with liver problems
Use the gel for at least one week after symptoms have gone to fully clear the infection. If you wear dentures, remove them at night and brush them with the gel.

- Never put the gel at the back of the throat.
- Always split the dose into small parts.

Daktarin Oral Gel must not be used if you take warfarin.
It can dangerously increase the effect of warfarin and may cause serious bleeding.
Do not use it with medicines broken down by CYP3A4 or CYP2C9, including:
- Medicines that prolong the QT interval (e.g. astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, quinidine, terfenadine, etc.).
- Ergot alkaloids.
- Statins such as simvastatin or lovastatin.
- Triazolam or oral midazolam.
- Warfarin
Your doctor may need to monitor or adjust doses for:
- Phenytoin
- Sulphonylurea diabetes tablets
- Some HIV medicines (e.g., saquinavir)
- Some cancer medicines (vinca alkaloids, docetaxel, busulfan)
- Certain calcium channel blockers
- Certain immunosuppressants (cyclosporine, tacrolimus, sirolimus)
- Others, such as carbamazepine, alfentanil, sildenafil, methylprednisolone, etc.
